6000 books on World Book Day for Bookbike London

Staff at the London Enterprise Academy have donated books to help Bookbike London reach out to the community.

Emdad Rahman’s bicycle project shares books with communities, including families, the elderly and the homeless.

What started off as a local project in one Borough neighbourhood now sees the cyclist reach out to residents and organisations in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Barking and Redbridge.

Speaking after receiving the latest batch of books Emdad said, “through reading we can learn and discover.

“London Enterprise Academy staff and pupils have helped me reach a new high on the road to 10,000 books. Thank you Beverley for arranging and Headteacher Ashid for facilitating.”

The books have been shared around East London, including the homeless and visitors at Humdum Foodbank where Bookbike London debuted a new cycle provided by Barking & Dagenham Giving to support the project.

1 in 7 pupils said that the book they bought with their World Book Day token was the first book they actually owned. Among children receiving Free School Meals this figure rose to 1 in 5.
