Young and old players were the key attraction as Beanibazar Sporting Club hosted a community sports event.

The Club delivered a popular inter-generational Badminton festival at Dagenham Park Leisure Centre which was attended by visitors from far and wide.

Guest of honour was Alhaj Lutfur Rahman who was marking his 83rd birthday. Mr Rahman was presented with a club shirt as a birthday gift and was joined by three generations of Beanibazaris including Nahid Ahmed aged 11 – the youngest participant of the day.

Representing the tournament co-ordinators Fokrul Islam commented, “Badminton is hugely popular and today we have witnessed many friends come together to celebrate unity through sport. Thanks to everyone for enduring a smooth running day full of lots of friendship and enjoyment.”

UK Badminton legend and veteran, former Councillor Ataur Rahman added, “It’s been a great spectacle in Dagenham with tremendous spirit and a fun atmosphere from start to finish. This event will inspire others to participate in sports and seek to lead active and healthy lives.”

Beanibazar Sporting Club President Mesba Ahmed concluded, “Our ethos with the club has been to use sport as a tool to pull the community together. Today has been tremendous in the way we have achieved our goals with participants spanning three generations.

“I would like to extend thanks to my committee, the players, not least the sponsors too. Well done to all and this will now provide a springboard to engage and promote unity, friendship, healthy lives and happier communities.”
