Docklands Football Club have started a new cycle clinic to service local cycles and carry out restoration work and repairs.
Club reps Shahab Ahmed and Mahommed Islam will be volunteering every Sunday and Monday afternoon for this project.
Every penny raised will go towards outreach programmes of the Docklands Community Initiative.
The funds will help buy food, toiletries and essentials for people who are struggling and facing hardship within local communities.
Cycling is an increasingly popular activity and the team hope that cyclists in the Canary Wharf area and Isle of Dogs will visit and spend money on fixing their bikes as well as supporting important local causes.
DCI Chairman Sunu Miah commented, “This is a tremendous initiative. We don’t have a bike shop on the Island so we are confident that this project which is entirely driven by volunteers will be hugely popular.
“Mahommed and Shahab will be in charge of the workshop but we will all be chipping in to help!”
The Docklands Community Initiative is made up of community volunteers who have come to support those facing hardship on the Isle of Dogs, Tower Hamlets and East London.
All the volunteers have been relentless throughout Covid and have been on hand for their neighbours during all hours of the day and night.
The team work with organisations like Only a Pavement Away to also support the homeless, people with mental health, the elderly and infirm and rough sleepers.
The cycle workshop will take place at the DCI hub, Phoenix Court every Sunday and Monday afternoon. Times may change slightly during the month of Ramadan.
