Scintilla Cricket Club have completed a morale boosting double after defeating rivals Newham CC at Oakfield Playing Fields.

The competitive derby saw Newham win the toss and elect to bat first.

Three wickets apiece from Rifat Mahmud and Minhazur Rahaman, two from Morshadur Rahman, including the prize scalp of Tariq Jan and one apiece from Moin Arefin and Akibur Rahman was enough to reduce Newham to 185 all out after 41 overs.

Adil Ejaz’s men made light work of their rivals with a match winning 144 wicket partnership between opener Akibur Rahman and Minhaz Rahaman enough to clinch the game after 33.1 overs. Tariq Jan followed up on his half century by taking three key Scintilla wickets.

Captain Adil Ejaz who had returned from a trip abroad to Pakistan merely a few hours before the game commented, “The weather was threatening to spoil things and we dropped a few catches in the field before Newham struck up a useful partnership of close to 100 runs.

“The boys responded extremely well and stayed focussed throughout. Some days you have to grind out results and thanks to some excellent bowling and dogged batting we finished off the task at hand.”
