The Plogolution reaches East London

Emdad Rahman

A group of diverse volunteers both young and old joined up for a 2 mile trot and a 5K run around East London as a get together to clean up the local community and have some fun at the same time.

The event started at Victoria Park and finished at the Hackney Council Sustainability Day at Hackney Town Hall.

Plogolution is managed by Dermot Kavanagh and Michelle Parkes to support and encourage fit and happy communities.

‘Plog’ is a Swedish word and roughly translates to running whilst picking up rubbish.

Both Michelle and Dermot are very passionate about their work. They said, “This is about dedication to protecting the environment so we can be proud to hand our planet down to future generations.

“We arrange regular ‘plogs’ which are run/walk and rubbish pick ups around London and we also help to keep rubbish from entering our rivers whilst raising endorphin levels at the same time!”

The next Plog will take place in Clapham on 9th December – www.plogolution.com
