We were invited to join up for a warm up game at Weavers for a big community event.
Chhatak Upazila UK have organised their first ever Union Cup which takes place at the Robert Clack Leisure Centre, Romford.
Amongst the teams taking part are Chhatak Pouroshoba FC. The team are headed by the veteran football legend Jewel Haque, the only grassroots footballer to score the winning penalty in both the Greater Sylhet Upazila Cup Final and the Inner London Football League Veterans World Cup.
The iconic Jewel will be instrumental for his mixed team and will boast amongst others, Mahbub Alam. There is never a dull moment with this well known activist and martial artist!
The warhorse may not have the legs but his game management and how he sets his starting line up will be crucial in how his team perform on the day.
“We are here to participate only and we are happy to enjoy and be a part of this great occasion,” said Jewel.
The wily fox is already diverting attention away from his team.
There are many Chhattakis living in Britain and this will be a landmark moment for them all. According to the majority of researchers, the area got its name from chhātā, the Bengali word for umbrella.
We do hope the day is bright, sunny and fun for everyone!
