Sadrul Amin is using April to take part in a solo charity feat to raise awareness and also funds for charity.

The 35 year old from Newham has only been running for three years and started doing so during the first coronavirus lockdown.

He said, “We were all experiencing great upheaval and it was particularly stressful for people. I took up running on my own to enable me to participate in an activity which helped me keep well physically and mentally.”

As a result he has developed a regular running habit and can be seen regularly pounding the streets in his running gear.

Ramadan is the holiest time of the year for Muslims all over the world and the majority will fast from dawn till dusk over the course of the sacred month.

The civil servant has been running a daily Ramadan 5K and feels this is a good thing. “I feel good, in shape and ready to make a difference,” he said.

Sadrul is running to raise awareness of Darul Ummah – The House of the Community in Goresbrook, Dagenham.

The Mosque and community centre is led by volunteers who are busy in the community through various activities which take place regularly. This includes coffee mornings, gatherings, sports activities, police information sessions, Councillor surgeries and litter picking.

As he is fasting Sadrul will be aiming to complete each 5K under 30 minutes, and he has placed a penalty on himself if he falls short.

“I’m taking it all at an easy pace so thirty minutes is good. If I don’t do it then I will pay £5 towards this cause,” he added.

Sadrul is making waves in the local community with his feat and makes some recommendations to others who want to take part in a similar challenge.

“Emulate yourself, never give up, don’t challenge others, do challenge yourself. My biggest influence is me – We are all different.
