Tower Hamlets Cricket Club is honoured to have a new President and Sponsor

Tower Hamlets CC (THCC) and it all members are delighted to announce its new honorary club president Sheikh Aliur Rahman, Owner and CEO of the London Tea Exchange and Sonargaon Restaurant as new sponsor. In a meeting chaired by Phil Knappett, on 1st May 2022, Sheikh Aliur Rahman and Tufazzal Alam, owner of Sonargaon was introduced to the club members.

Phil Knappett welcomed the new president and said, “our new president can make huge contributions to the club for its long-term growth. I am delighted to see Sonargaon restaurant come forward as a leading sponsor of the club”.

Vice-Chairman Shahidul Alam Ratan said, “THCC is the only cricket club within Tower Hamlets playing top-level cricket in the Middlesex County Cricket League.

The club need a home ground in Victoria Park and cricketers from the borough have joined hands with THCC to make this one of the best cricket clubs in Middlesex. I am pleased that Aliur Rahman is joining us, and this will be a significant development in the 12 year of history of the club.

“I am grateful to Tufazzal Alam for his support to the club”.

In his remarks Sheikh Aliur Rahman said, “I am delighted to be part of Tower Hamlets CC. I will work together with the committee, community leaders, and businesses to support the growth of THCC. We will meet with the club senior management soon to identify needs and we all will work towards achieving our targets.”

At the meeting the clubs committee introduced the new sponsor at Sonargaon restaurant, which played a key role during the pandemic by providing free food to front line workers and those who needed it most. In his speech, Mr Alam of Sonargaon said, “I am happy to be part of Tower Hamlets CC. We always support local residents and particularly the young people. Sonargaon will be always beside the club to support its development”.

Tower Hamlets CC play in the Middlesex County Cricket League. The club has 3 adult teams playing Saturday cricket.

The club has colts sections playing under 9, 11, 13, 15 age groups in the Middlesex Colts league. THCC runs its colts training every Thursday 5-7 pm in Victoria Park.

Also present was Judy Knappett, Executive committee member and Head Teacher of Stewart Headlam and Hague Schools’ Federation, Motaharul Hasan, Club Secretary, Jubayed Miah, first team captain, Shah Shahed, the second team, and many other players.
