Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation 80’s Retro Running Series

By editor

July 20, 2020

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Retro Running Series will run throughout 2020.

The team kickstarted the Retro Running Series back in June with the I love the 90s run, marking the decade the charity was founded.

Next as voted by the supporters everyone is heading to the 80s which has been launched this month and will begin in August. The overall plan is to visit the remaining decades throughout October, November and January, with each decade giving the opportunity to earn a new and exclusive themed medal.

Anyone who raises or donates £25 will receive an exclusive I Love the 80s technical top at the end of August with your 80s medal.

Additionally, our readers can sign up to all five retro running races to receive the ultimate generation Retro Running medal at the end of the series, not only that but reach the minimum sponsorship target of £150.00 and you will receive an exclusive decade themed technical top, with your medal each month.

The Retro Running Series offers a chance to head back in time and relive your favourite decades. Not only are you keeping yourself healthy by running, you are helping us support those living with lung cancer.

If you would like to sign up for the Retro Running Series and take on the 90s, 80s and remaining decades throughout 2020, the registration fee is £30.00 and a minimum sponsorship target of £150.00.

To reach the overall minimum sponsorship target, you will need to raise £30.00 per decade. Your registration fee covers, all five medals and your ultimate Retro Running medal at the end.

If you raise the minimum sponsorship target, you will receive each decade’s exclusive themed technical tops with your medal at the end of the month.

Please note that all medals will be sent out at the end of August no matter when you complete the event, so anyone who completes their run at the start of the month please bear in mind your medal wont be posted until the end of August when the 80s run finishes.

Every supporter that takes part will receive access to the 80s event page, where you will find competitions, votes and more as well as the exclusive 80s retro medal once the run is complete.

When it comes to lung cancer, there are a lot of misconceptions. Many people presume lung cancer is a disease that only affects people who smoke, or who used to smoke. But the reality is if you have lungs you can get lung cancer, so it is really important to recognise the potential signs and symptoms, which include:   * A persistent cough that lasts for three weeks or more (remember a cough doesn’t just mean Covid!) * Breathlessness * Unexplained tiredness * Repeat chest infections * Coughing up blood * Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite * Chest or shoulder pain * Difficulty swallowing * Wheezing or hoarseness * Clubbed fingers.   If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your doctor as soon as possible, share your concerns and asked for an x-ray. When lung cancer is caught early, it can be treated and cured.
