Rofikul Islam has been made a Freeman of the City of London – The highest honour that the City of London can bestow on an individual.
The community activist was also noted as one of the youngest British Bangladeshi recipient of such an honour.
Rofikul is a local community activist and international humanitarian worker who has inspired many to become more involved in their community through his diverse grassroots efforts in reaching out to those who are not as privileged.
He regularly shares his skills and talents with those around him in order to make a positive change in local and international communities.
This has included raising over half a million pounds for various charities over the last 5 years.
On the international humanitarian front Rofikul has activated various projects and lead various delegations to The Gambia, Somaliland, Bosnia and Bangladesh to name a few. In order to raise funds for international projects, Rofikul has cycled from London to Paris.
More locally, Rofikul regularly serves homeless and underprivileged citizens with the One Third Soup Kitchen, which is a charity for the homeless, elderly, lonely and poor in East London and surrounding areas.
Speaking after his ceremony Rofikul commented, “This is a huge honour for me and I would like to thank my family, colleagues, mentors for their guidance and faith in me. A huge thank you to the City of London for recognising me.”
