Beanibazar Jonokollyan Somitee celebrates thirty years

The Beanibazar Jonokollyan Somitee has celebrated thirty years of excellence in serving the greater community.

Guests in attendance at a gala evening at The Royal Regency, Newham included London Assembly Member Unmesh Desai, Councillor Nazma Rahman from Camden, Tower Hamlets Mayor John Biggs, Councillor Faruk Choudhury from Barking & Dagenham, former Councillor Ataur Rahman, Ahmed Us Samad Choudhury JP, British Bangladeshi Who’s Who Director Abdul Karim Goni and Councillor Faruque Ahmed.

The evening saw attendees receive an update of the activities of the Welfare Trust along with future plans. There were a small number of awards presented in recognition of expatriate Beanibazaris who are excelling in their respective fields.

There were posthumous awards for the late greats: Alhaj Shamsul Rahman, Moulana Izzad Ali, Shahab Uddin Belal and Mimbor Ali amongst others.

Beanibazar Jonokollyan Somitee President Abdul Karim Nazim commented, “Beanibazaris have always taken the utmost pride in serving their respective communities. We possess great civic pride and are a group of people who are driven by a massive passion to excel in whichever field we wish to participate in.

“I am overwhelmed by just looking at the outstanding calibre of the people in this room and it cannot fail to leave anyone feeling anything less than inspired. There are some magnificent stories here. We are extremely happy that so many people attended and we look forward to seeing you all again in the future.
